Generally speaking a prospective applicant may have a degree in any field, as long as they have completed the additional pre-requisite courses required for the program they wish to enter. These usually include several biology classes, general and organic chemistry, psychology, physics, english, and calculus. If the current degree meets all pre-requisites then he should be fine! I encourage your friend to contact the programs he is interested in and speak to an admissions counselor regarding the classes needed to apply.
