Forensic science?

if you wanted to become a forensic scientistwhat type of education would you need and where would you go to school? Any ideas?
Answers:
It depends on what kind of forensic scientist you want to be. Fingerprint analysis, bloostain pattern analysis and crime scene photography are elements of forensic science which are offered through programs involved in crime scene investigation. Some of these are not university programs, but training sessions done by local police departments. Ditto for crime scene technicians, who may or may not have a college degree in biology, chemistry or criminalistics. Some crime scene techs are cops who have received training in evidence collection.
A forensic scientist may be involved in DNA analysis, which is a biology degree, or electron microscopy, which may be just a BS in physics, chemistry or biology, depending on their training.
You also use gas chromatography, and the like, which is a chemistry degree or biology degree with physical chemistry accounting for at least 12 credit hours (in California) including blood ethanol analysis certification.
A forensic pathologist is a physician who specialized in pathology.
A medico-legal death investigator may be a nurse, paramedic or other health-related degreed person with additional training in death investigations.
There are also forensic anthropologists who have PhDs in medical anthropology, or human anthropology
I almost forgot the forensic entymologists, who study insects and their activities in decomposition, these are usually PhDs too.
I had been in the forensic science program at Michigan State University

Many colleges and universities now offer B.S. degrees in forensic science and many offer masters degrees as well. So check with colleges or university in the area you wish to go to school.
